A neighborhood with no single answer
Superstition Springs was built out over roughly fifteen years from the mid eighties, and that shows in the housing. Single-story patio homes sit near two-story family plans. Some phases are dense, some are not. Golf frontage, mall adjacency, and a lot of variety in between.
For us that means no assumptions. In Las Sendas we can be fairly confident you have a long roof run. In Dobson Ranch we can be confident you do not. Here we ask, and it is worth you knowing the answer before you call anyone.
The quick test: walk outside and look for a vent flap on an exterior wall near your laundry room. If you find one, you have a short side-wall run and the easy version. If you do not, your vent goes up and out the roof, which is a longer run with more elbows and a much shorter maintenance interval.
The golf course factor
Homes backing the course get more organic material in the air than the interior lots, particularly in the fall during overseeding when the whole course gets worked over.
That matters less for the duct than for the exterior cap. Fine organic debris collects around the hood and packs into the flapper hinge. A flapper that cannot swing cleanly is how rain gets in and how birds get in, and it is the single most common thing we fix on a cap in this neighborhood.
If your home backs the course, that thirty-second check is worth doing twice a year: run the dryer, go outside, watch whether the flap lifts freely.

What the job looks like here
- Inspect the run. We find where it goes and how it terminates, check the exterior cap or roof hood, and look at the transition hose behind the machine. A surprising number of problems sit in the first three feet.
- Work it from the outside with the dryer running. We leave the machine running the whole time we are at the termination, so the air it is pushing carries the lint we agitate straight out of the run instead of letting it settle back down the pipe. It makes a mess outside. We clean that up.
- Work it from the inside. Machine unplugged, hose disconnected, dryer pulled back. We feed the brush through the vent from inside, bring the lint down toward us, and vacuum it up out of the wall rather than leaving it to resettle.
- Both ends on a long run, one end on a short one. A thirty-foot roof run with three elbows gets worked from both sides, because a brush fed from one end alone never properly reaches the far half. A short side-wall run does not need it and we will not pretend otherwise.
- Put it back and show you. Dryer reconnected where it belongs, run to confirm, and the pile of what came out sitting where you can look at it.

A bird nest or a genuine blockage adds time, and you will hear about that before we start rather than after.
How often should I be doing this?
Ten months is the interval for an ordinary household. Bring it to four to six if there are a lot of you and the machine runs most days. Commercial equipment is monthly. These are schedules rather than gentle advice, and if your trigger for calling is the dryer getting slow, you passed due roughly a year ago. That screen you clear each load catches a fraction of what the system sheds. The remainder is in your duct and in the housing beneath the screen, which empties itself never.
How do I know whether I even need it?
Run the dryer on air fluff and go feel the airflow at the exterior vent. Strong steady air means the duct is clear and your problem, if you have one, is the appliance.
